Little rods for low water

Having written “Big Rods, Big Rivers” one would think that’s all I’d use on big water. When flows are very low, fish cluster in smaller features, even on a big river like the Grand. With the low water, we can wade far without difficulty and we’re often casting to fish holding features that can easily covered by a 12 footer or smaller rod. Today the Grand is running below typical summer time lows so all I really need is a 12’ or 13’ rod. Some features could easily be covered by a switch rod or a single hander. In low flows, a big river becomes a collection of little features. Use the right tool to work them.
