Making a Butt End Loop

Often we have to make a loop in thick fly line. It isn't practical to double this thick line over on itself like a tip loop, as it will end up far too thick and clunky. Instead we use some spare running line to form a loop, laying the running line parallel to the main line then welding it all together.

Remember to use the same kind of material when welding running one onto main line. PVC to PVC and PU to PU. It is possible to mix, but the welding gets much more dicey. Where possible, I like to trim some running line off of the fly line itself and use that for the loops; as an example, when cutting a fly line for sinktips.
